Manager Bio

When Arsene Wenger was appointed as Arsenal manager on 1 October 1996 from Japanese club Nagoya Grampus Eight he was an unknown entity to many Arsenal fans, but that is not the case anymore after a hugely successful tenure as the club’s longest serving manager.

The Frenchman learned the trade in the early stages of his managerial career in France with spells at Strasbourg, Cannes and Nancy before earning a move to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

He won the French League Championship in 1988 before moving to Japan seven years later for an 18 month stint.

Wenger did not take long to adapt to life in English football and guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in the 1997/98 season.

He repeated the feat once again in the 2001/02 season before making history in 2003/04, as his side went unbeaten throughout the entire league campaign on the way to sealing a third Premier League crown.

The Frenchman's side were dubbed ‘the invincibles’ and amassed an impressive 90 points after 38 matches.

Wenger has added six FA Cup triumphs to his collection with the Gunners and was voted Manager of the Year in 1998, 2002 and 2004.

Arsenal have also finished in the top four of every Premier League season that Wenger has been in charge, securing continuous UEFA Champions League football for the north London team.

Wenger became the Premier League’s current longest serving manager when Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012/13 season.
