If you launch Rust via a shortcut you’re probably going to be pretty confused next time you launch it because you will find yourself in Experimental. If you want to play the previous version that hasn’t been updated for 6 months (now known as ‘legacy’) you can do so by launching via Steam..
If you’re resistant to change and don’t want any part of the new version you can switch to the legacy branch. This way your shortcut should start working again.

Everytime I try to connect to a server on the new Rust it will either crash when it gets to loading data, or it will just have said I died and clicking respawn does nothing.

xenzorg The problem is that the game isn’t using 100% of the power you have, you can check with MSI Afterburner, for me it’s only using 50% of my GPU and not at it’s full clock speed, either.
Hey I just bought a copy of the game and installed it, it didn;t work at first. I could only run legacy. So i googled it then I found out I needed to go to properties and set to beta. so I did that and it had me download the update. I did that then when I click run it has me choose which one I want to do rust or legacy when i choose rust it just closes the selector and then just does nothing, would you happen to know a fix?

Playing on mac, got the good config, can play legacy but experimental close just after i clic on play….try to reinstal/restart etc…nothing work…

When launching rust from.steam library, you should be able to unwindow it. You need to go fullscreen

If you are on the “experimental – stay away!” Build your chances of finding a server are slim, that branch updates every time they commit code and may not always work.

DuelKill Same problem. Gtx 760. Except i get great fps but every so many seconds i have spikes down to 15. It is very irritating.
Newcourt Options for graphics settings you press f2 in settings
Go into steam, right click game, go to properties, go to betas.
None – opt out of all betas is now the normal option launching “experimental” as normal and allowing you to also choose “legacy”
Experimental GET AWAY branch is now there testing branch, you will play updates the very moment they are committed to code. This branch has no garentee of working at time and may crash.
It’s the game 100% as they are creating it.
Make sure you have None selected on that, let it install, and you should be ok.

Why do the Rust experimental version differ between me and my buddy? We both switched to Legacy did the Update and then switched back to experimental. He has got 1309 and I got 1299. What can I do to get this running? I can’t join the server he is playing on since I get “status disconnected” everytime. Before I switched to Legacy and back to experimental I had 1299 as I have after the updates. His was 1276 before and is 1309 after the update. Please help!!!

I had the same problem a while back. I had to lower my video settings and it worked fine. Keep trying until you find the highest settings that work for you.

Can we have a RUN key. something like they ENTER key on the keypad. i can put something heavy on it and come back later. Iam serious here. Pressing shift w for a loooooong time is soo annoying.
Got that issue a few patches ago, while still using an athlon 64 x2. Running maintenance and Rebooting my computer was all it took… Haven t gotten it once since i upgraded to an FX6300 though.

Uninstalled and then re-installed still no menu options and no way to play, just a wolf and the rain. I read the previous comments and i have no idea how to opt out of beta or whatever and really why would this make my menu not appear? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Then ask for a refund? lol Rust Legacy is….done? They can call it done. Say that’s all, it’s release, and it’s up to valve to fix anti cheat. But no, they decided to start over, make it better, fix issues and add new and better things in. And they offer this to you for FREE your didn’t pay for experimental they gave it to you.
Instead of crying like everyone else who got a free updated version, call it Rust 2.0 why not comment feed back to help them build the game you want to play?

If you have read ANYTHING about what’s going on is they physically can not update legacy, they would have to change millions of lines of code to fix and add new features. They can fix and add new guns and base items and towns, but it will probably be months between each small update.
Experimental updates up to 20x a day adding new items, menus, fixes and features.
In a month or so you will eat your words and play just like everyone else, so lets be helpful not childish..
Remember a game is only as playable as the person playing makes it.

Agreed 100% the scale system is to tedious with how small the icons are. A modifier would be nice, click for full stack, alt click for scale?
But lets also keep in mind items are way way over abundant and have no stack limit at the moment ( most likely for testing purposes) when they fine tune a scale system on a stack of 250 wolnt be nearly as bad. With 30,000 times you have to hit a single screen pixel for a stack of 100 atm.
not too fond of the drag and drop stacking system… maybe a right click option to create a stack of X-amount of item but drag amd drop should be back to normal… drag a stack drop that stack
They just need to add real defences and tweek structure reinforcement methods a bit… ATM they may as well rename it to “time out simulator 2.0” since you do nothing but stare at walls for 6 hours, just to get a start – or join the rest of the bottom feeders and troll other players.
Please vote on this like crazy (trying make it a priority) So that we don’t get stuck with some fancy “Time-out simulator 2.0”
In addition to anything having to do with defensive structures/traps/spiked walls etc. The game is extremely out of balance and griefers/raiders have all of the advantage atm. If this is going to be the default, its time to sort it out and make the fuckers work for our loot.
A suggested improvement to help make structure reinforcements a bit less… mundane… They may already have it planned, but haven’t seen anything on trello suggesting it besides a new hammer model.

Yesterday I was playing just fine, today all the servers appear but when I click join the game doesn’t react at all. Can’t join official or community servers, what gives? Obviously other people can if the seattle server has 90 people in it.

Hey there I have a big problem. I just find one server where I can play on and I am finished with my latin. Another problem is that I can’t farm stone or something like that. Wood is no problem. Any ideas?
Issues420916 “few weeks”, “going to be” “close to” my point exactly.. And no its not as playable, just random buildings everywhere, random stairs to heaven. And than to top it all, you can remove metal walls with a rock. Great fun! Much worth my time.
“Legacy” was playable? 9/10 players hack ,glitch, exploit and so on?
Last I played legacy I was being passed by speed hackers every 5 minutes while trying to dodge aim bots and people with bases in rocks.
“Legacy” was pre alpha also they just can not go further with it. The new version is just as playable, make a Eoka pistol, strap on your bolt action and build your base, don’t forget to upgrade the parts to level 5 so it’s harder to break in.
The new version is just hitting the point legacy was when it first came out. I’m assuming you got it from steam and not the dutch auction? I played legacy, not a ton but enough to know it was fun, but it’s over. They can’t code it, they can stop the cheats, and there is 100% no point in working on it.
Just last Friday I felt the same as you, experimental was boreing, no point in building a base, no guns worked etc. I have played 12 hours none stop every day for the last 3 days.
With just the addition of upgradeing bases it changed everything, and that was just one small update.
They are close to baseline, in the next few weeks you will see the game catch up, then pass where legacy is.
I mean come on, Dirt bikes, caves, epic monuments and landmarks, random gen towns, every map is new, it’s going to be amazing.

today 1/10/14 i updated game and gues what? The game load but on the main menu theres no play game,options,exit option theres just the background with a wolf standing in a forest while its raining…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE “FIX THIS A.S.A.P” because i spent 82hours on rust and my house is wood so please fix this quickly as my house has probably started getting effected by decay (last played game 30/09/14 at 9:00pm so please do fix this………

Never going to happen, the project is over. And experimental is amazingly fun give it a try :) raiding isn’t just for who has C4 and friends anyone can raid and fight.
Opt out of all betas on steam. Experimental is main now so you need to download legacy as the extra package. It worked for me I was getting kicked right after the unity menu
@TravisRobicheaux I had the same issue, now that “Experimental” is the normal game opt out of all betas on steam and it should load for you.
