Soram Sunil sworn in as first mayor of Imphal
TNN | Jun 18, 2016, 05.37 AM ISTImphal: Congress councillor Soram Sunil, who won in the recent Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) election, was sworn in as the first mayor of the civic body on Thursday.
Congress won 12 seats in the 27-member corporation. With the support of four of five independent councillors, the party retained power in corporation for the third time in a row.
Deputy commissioner (Imphal West) Ningthoujam Geoffrey administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected councillors. Meibon Phaomei was elected as deputy mayor.
The opposition BJP won a record 10 seats in the IMC election. The corporation covers seven assembly segments in Imphal West and Imphal East.
