One of the most popular Hearthstone streamers has finally ascended to the higher ranks of the game’s ladder system.
Followers of the game’s streaming scene will probably be surprised to hear that Octavian ‘Kripparrian’ Morosan has never hit the rank of Legend in the game before, but that was actually the case – until last night.
Hearthstone’s competitive ladder system sees players start from Rank 25 each month and climb through to Rank 1 by winning games and gaining stars. Win streaks are rewarded with more stars up until the Rank 5, while stars cannot be lost at Rank 20 or below.
Once a player hits Rank 1 they then achieve Legend Rank, where they are given a number that represents their overall numerical ranking on their regional server.
The bummer of course is that at the start of every month the ranking and wiped and everyone is reset, although bonus starting stars are awarded according to a player’s performance in the previous season.
Kripp, who has 594k followers on Twitch and 550k subscribers on YouTube, has gained a big following due to his likeable presenting style and innovative deck building, but this hasn’t always translated into success – although he is highly regarded in hearthstone’s Arena mode.
However, last night’s Hunter deck finally saw him over the Legendary ladder line.
A few onlookers have bemoaned the fact that some of his late opponents in last night’s run conceded to help him gain the extra stars to hit legend, but with a player with as many fans as Kripp, this was likely unavoidable – and it was certainly not something the man himself was happy about.
Prior to his Hearthstone exploits Kripp was one of the world’s top World of Warcraft players. In January he signed with eSports organisation Team SoloMid.
