Meanwhile, MAMA is CJ E&M;′s billboard Asian music festival in its seventh year running. It began as the Mnet KM Music Video Festival in 1999, growing together with Korea′s music industry over 10 years, before becoming MAMA in 2009. MAMA began its global advancement in Macau in 2010 before moving to Singapore in 2011 then Hong Kong from 2012 to 2014, becoming more than just a year-end award ceremony and establishing itself as the biggest music festival and global communication channel for people from all over the world to enjoy and spread mainstream music in Asia.

This is the fourth time the award ceremony is being held in Hong Kong. MAMA selected Hong Kong because the city is not only where diverse cultures coexist but a culture industry hub and easily accessible geographically from all across Asia.
