Opening Credits for HBO’s ‘Westworld’ Released Online (Video)

Dubbed as the next Game of Thrones, HBO has released the opening credits for the new series, Westworld, which premiered last night.

Game of Thrones is an HBO juggernaut. Even if you haven’t seen it, you know exactly what is. So, once people started comparing Thrones to Westworld, we all knew the premiere was going to be huge. Even though the show is based on a movie that most people have never heard of until now.

Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton wrote and directed the 1973 movie, but passed the baton to The Force Awakens‘ J.J. Abrams for the television series. From there, J.J. Abrams assembled a creative team including Jonathon Nolan and Lisa Joy, found an all-star cast, and hired the production studio, Elastic, to create an unforgettable title sequence.

Check out the opening credits below:

Additionally, a lot of people who tuned in last night are probably familiar with the Nolan name — Jonathon is the younger brother of The Dark Knight trilogy’s Christopher Nolan. However, Jonathon knows some success of his own, having created the CBS series, Person of Interest. (Also with J.J. Abrams.)

Yet, fans may not be as familiar with Ramin Djawadi or Elastic, the studio that put the credits together. But if you’re a Game of Thrones fan, then you’ve already seen some of their previous work. Six seasons later, I’m still not tired of seeing that opening sequence. In fact, if Elastic follows the same formula, don’t be surprised if little details in Westworld‘s opening title change from time to time.

Much like Thrones, the title sequence depicts the world of Westworld being 3D-printed. And it fantastically matches up with the sci-fi tone of the series.

Westworld airs its next episode on Sunday at 9/8c on HBO. Stay tuned for our recap any analysis of each episode right here on Culturess.
