Joe Jonas, Rachel Platten Announce AMAs Live on 'GMA'

Nominees for the 2016 American Music Awards were announced on "Good Morning America" today by singers Joe Jonas and Rachel Platten.

Jonas and Platten kicked off the announcements live on "GMA," and then revealed further categories on Snapchat and in a live stream on the "GMA" Facebook page and ABCNews.com.

Drake led the pack with 13 overall nominations and set a new AMA record for most nominations in a single year, surpassing Michael Jackson's 11 nominations in 1984, according to the AMAs. Rihanna received seven nominations, Adele and Justin Bieber followed with five each, and Beyoncé and The Chainsmokers each received four nominations.

During the live announcements, Platten first learned that she was nominated this year for Favorite Artist in the Adult Contemporary category with Adele and Meghan Trainor.

"I wish I’d played it a little cooler but I didn’t like play it cool at all. I was like, ‘Oh my God,'" Platten said of her reaction. "I was really excited."

Platten said she was even more excited to learn her American Music Awards nomination came from fans.

"I really truly make music so that I can bring people together and help people and spread love, so that’s amazing," she said.

Jonas described the two nominations his band, DNCE, received as "overwhelming."

"You obviously make music because it’s what’s from your heart, but also you want to get out there and perform for this audience and the fans that vote and show up to shows and wait outside in the freezing cold to say hi," he said. "It’s why we do it."

The AMAs will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
