The WORD-Student Affairs - Carnegie Mellon University

Welcome to The Word 2016-2017,

At Carnegie Mellon it is our ambition that all students will reach their highest potential in the areas of intellectual and artistic pursuits, personal well-being, professional development, leadership, and contribution to the larger community.

Countless resources and opportunities are available to support your success at Carnegie Mellon. This student handbook contains specific information and linked resources designed to provide you with the tools and guidance to help you take full advantage of the Carnegie Mellon experience.

In addition to the support provided by the university, you can also expect the university will work to uphold the standards of our community. To ensure you are knowledgeable of the university’s expectations and the process that will be followed when these standards are not met, this handbook also articulates the rights and responsibilities afforded to and expected of each member of our community.

Whether in house communities, in labs and classrooms, on the athletic field, in studios, at organization meetings, on stage, or in service to the Pittsburgh community, Carnegie Mellon students are expected to take ownership for their education and apply their knowledge and passions to broader contexts. Being familiar with the standards of our community and the resources that will support you in all these endeavors is a responsibility each community member must uphold.

We encourage you to use this resource as you create your Carnegie Mellon experience and embrace your role as a valued member of our community. We wish you continued success in the coming year.
