How do I enable and disable TalkBack on my Samsung Galaxy Young?

Voice Assistant or TalkBack is a feature to aid blind and low-vision users by speaking actions out loud as items are touched, selected or activated.

 

This feature is called TalkBack on older models and operating systems, and Voice Assistant on newer.

Follow the below steps to enable Voice Assistant (TalkBack) on your device

 

Note that the screens below may appear slightly different to your device depending on your operating system and whether you have personalised your device with themes, but the steps will be the same.

 

1. From the home screen, tap Apps

2. Tap Settings

3. Tap Accessibility (you may need to scroll down a little)

4. Tap Vision. If you do not have a Vision option, skip to step 5

5. Tap Voice Assistant or TalkBack. (This feature is called TalkBack on older devices, and Voice Assistant on newer.) The option on your screen will appear as one of the below. Tap the option that best matches your device.

6. Tap the slider to enable Voice Assistant (TalkBack)

7. Tap OK to confirm you wish to enable Voice Assistant (TalkBack)

8. If this is the first time you have used Voice Assistant (TalkBack), some of your current settings such as TTS (Text-To-Speech) may need to be disabled and you will be prompted to change them here.

 

Tap OK and Enable TalkBack/Voice Assistant, if prompted.

9. If this is the first time you have used Voice Assistant (TalkBack), you may now be given a tutorial on using it. (This will depend on which model device you have)

Turning Off Voice Assistant (TalkBack)

 

As VoiceAssistant (TalkBack) is designed for low-vision users, the touchscreen is set up differently.

 

You will need to double tap an icon to open it, and scroll with two fingers down the screen instead of one.

 

Follow the below steps to turn off Voice Assistant (TalkBack)

 

1. Double tap Apps

3. Scroll down with two fingers and double tap Accessibility

4. Double tap Vision. If you do not see a Vision option, skip to step 5
