I’d seen Dreamcrusher’s name tossed around here and there and thought “Oh, cool name” but never made it a priority to seek out his tunes. FUCK. You guys, this is unreal. Don’t do what I did. Listen to this now. “Inspired by a vast series of traumatic events,” Suicide Deluxe goes on a fucking technoise rampage, massive beat driven jams that could be jungle or house or glitch or whatever but you’d never know because everything is buried under a hundred layers of caustic grit, totally bombastic and in the red, like someone accidentally got their number one dance mix stuck in a feedback loop and it just grew to inhumane proportions and now we’re being rushed to the ER after coming from the filthiest most crushing blown out party, ear piercing squelches & brain crunching bass that make Pete Swanson sound like Paul Oakenfold, this is complete and utter fucking madness, visceral and nightmarish and just the fucking best, and the volume on this is cranked to infinity, so please please please turn your speakers way the fuck down before you hurt yourself. $7 for the tape if you’re into that kinda thing, or pay what you want over on Bandcamp, so NO EXCUSES.

With only a couple killer EPs to his name (on Debacle and Field Hymns), Black Hat drops this fucking ridiculous full length on the Hausu and people better start payin attention now. This dude jams some dark techno drone that drowns out the rest of the watered down stuff in the genre. Thought Of Two could easily have come out on Modern Love, it’s got the sprawling ambient vibe that drones with the best of em, soaring through deep space headed for the edge of the universe and glimpsing the other side of life, and beautifully textured foundations that set the scene for a mixed bag of rad rhythms, occasionally woozy & blissful, but mostly just alien industrial grooves that are murky as fuck and damn near perfect, this is the most premium shit, definitely a high point in the scene right now. Only 100 copies of this beast were pressed to white vinyl and they’re almost completely gone already, even though it was officially released yesterday, but if you miss out on the white vinyl, there’s plenty of CDs to go around. UPDATE: Plenty of black vinyl was pressed up too. My bad!

This record is insane. Some guy from Roxbury (aka Boston) making twisted bedroom jams of a hundred different genres. Every song is another sound, tropical drone, gritty technoise, dubby witch house, skittery ambience, spastic jungle DnB, chilled catchy AnCo pop, lo-fi chiptuney party starters, everything under the DIY sun. And it’s super sample heavy, almost every track has some clips from films and interviews and stuff. Definitely demo style, but not demo quality. This is fucking killer, it’s just all over the place. It makes for one chaotic mindfuck of a record and clearly that’s something to be proud of. Plus, IT’S FREE. Go download this shit before he changes his mind.
A new Watson album titled Interstices just dropped on basic_sounds today, making it the netlabel’s first full length release! And supplementing the album’s release is this super stylin video for the first track “Adsidua.” Nice glitchy ambient techno stuff, full of organic water sounds and solid beats, and the video matches it perfectly, digital geometry laid over & interacting with the analog atmosphere. Excellent eye candy and a free full length’s worth of killer tunes. Quite a way to kick off the best month of the year (the month in which yours truly arrived on the scene).

A music/animation duo with a “psychophonotropic picture disc LP.” Basically, two dudes whose live show is better than their records so they compensate by making zoetropic LPs. Super fucking cool zoetropic LPs. These guys sound like a collab between an ADHD Boards Of Canada and a noisier Andrew Douglas Rothbard on LSD. Some crazy shit in here. It’s a techno glitch madhouse with ’50s avant garde electronics & sci-fi sounds, ’60s psych, and ’70s film score snippets. Truly the wackiest wonkiest beats around, dubby trip hop going toe to toe with breakcore, max chill groovin with acid freakouts, sequenced synth loops and glittery robotronics strolling through the common, all manner of awesome thrown into a blender, soundtracking the only kind of club I’d ever want to go to. Digital music that most certainly belongs on the turntable. See the zoetrope in action and while you’re at it check out the brand new video for “Elk Cloner.”

Chicago dude’s debut of scattered electronics on a newish tape label that’s already almost 20 releases deep. This is some crazy potent shit, pumping out all sorts of stuff using jungle beats, electro-acoustic processing, ambient glitch, static noise blasts, smooth pop charm, and whatever else meets Mario’s needs for electrosploitation. Sueisfine is sexy as fuck, the tracks alternating between sultry grit & chill grooves. A total crowd pleaser, but I’d say the crowd is a pretty niche bunch. That niche could just be you & your other, a private party for two that starts with some freaky shit on the dance floor. Or it could be the inspiration for your next homegrown DIY DJ set. Either way, this album is fuckin hot and full of amazing beats for all occasions. Not too shabby for a debut.
