Our Executive Leadership

Dr. George O. Wood was elected chief executive officer of The General Council of the Assemblies of God at the 52^nd General Council in August, 2007. As general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, USA, part of the largest Pentecostal denomination in the world, he is a member of the denomination’s Executive Leadership Team and Executive Presbytery. The church has over 12,900 congregations in the United States with over three million members and adherents.

The U.S. Assemblies of God is part of a larger World Assemblies of God Fellowship with a membership of over 67 million. Dr. Wood also serves as chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship as well as the global co-chair for Empowered21.

Prior to his present position, Wood served the church as its general secretary for 14 years. He was assistant superintendent of the Southern California District Council from 1988-93. Wood pastored Newport-Mesa Christian Center in Costa Mesa, California, for 17 years. 

The son of missionary parents to China and Tibet, Wood holds a doctoral degree in pastoral theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, and a juris doctorate from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, California; and is a member of the California Bar and admitted and qualified as attorney and counsellor of the United States Supreme Court. He did his undergraduate work at Evangel University (College) in Springfield, Missouri, and served the college in several capacities, including being director of spiritual life and student life from 1965-71. He was ordained by the Southern Missouri District in 1967.

Dr. Wood is author of a number of books including Fearless, Road Trip Leadership, Core Values, Living in the Spirit, A Psalm in Your Heart, Living Fully, The Successful Life, and a college text on the Book of Acts. Sermons and articles by Dr. Wood may be accessed at www.georgeowood.com.

Wood and his wife, Jewel, have a daughter and son.

Alton Garrison serves as the assistant general superintendent of the Assemblies of God. In addition, he servers as the director of the Church Transformation Initiative which helps churhces renwe their spiritual vitality and reach their full kingdom potential.

Garrison served as executive director of U.S. Missions from 2005-2007; as superintendent fo the Arkansas District from 2001-2005; and as pastor of First Assembly of God, North Little Rock, Arkansas, from 1986-2001. Throughout his pastorate, First Assembly saw significant growth, both numerically and financially. In 1996, First Assembly gave $1.4 million to world and U.S. missions. Garrison served as an evangelist from 1968-1985.

He has authored the books: A Spirit-Empowered Church, Acts 2 Church, Hope in America’s Crisis, The 360° Disciple and Building a Winning Team. Johanna Garrison authored the book: Tangled Destinies, an account of her family’s hardships through the Nazi holocaust and an Indonesian revolution and their subsequent immigration to the United States.

Garrison and his wife, Johanna, have one daughter, Lizette, and one grandson and one granddaughter.

Dr. James T. Bradford was elected General Secretary of the Assemblies of God by the Executive Presbytery in February 2009. He is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and the Executive Presbytery. As general secretary, Bradford oversees the credentialing of ministers, church chartering, the collection of official statistics and the Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center.

Prior to his election as general secretary, Bradford served as Senior Pastor of Central Assembly in Springfield, Missouri. Bradford holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Minnesota. As a student he led a small Chi Alpha campus Bible study that eventually grew into a university church. Upon graduation in 1979, Bradford stepped into full time ministry with that campus outreach.

In 1988, Bradford and his family moved to Southern California where he pastored Newport-Mesa Church in the heart of Orange County. Twelve years later the Bradfords transitioned to Vancouver, B.C., to pastor Broadway Church.

He is author of Lead So Others Can Follow, Preaching: Maybe It is Rocket Science, and Second Chronicles Seven Fourteen: A 28-Day Journey in Prayer. 

Bradford and his wife, Sandi, have two married daughters.

Doug Clay was elected general treasurer of the Assemblies of God by the Executive Presbytery in January 2008. He is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and the Executive Presbytery. Clay oversees the Division of the Treasury, which is responsible for handling all finances sent to the National Office for the world ministries of the church.

Prior to his election as general treasurer, Clay served as superintendent of the Ohio District from June 2004 to 2008. He pastored Calvary Assembly of God in Toledo, Ohio, from 1997 to 2004. Clay has also served as the Assemblies of God national youth director (1995-1997), Ohio District youth director (1989-1995) and as a youth pastor in Ohio and Iowa.

Clay was ordained by the Iowa District in 1988 and is a 1985 graduate of Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.

Clay and his wife, Gail, have two grown daughters.

Zollie L. Smith Jr. was elected executive director of Assemblies of God U.S. Missions at the 52nd General Council in August 2007. He is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and Executive Presbytery. Smith coordinates the ministries of seven departments: Chaplaincy Ministries; Chi Alpha Campus Ministries, U.S.A.; Intercultural Ministries; Missionary Church Planters and Developers; U.S. Mission America Placement Service (MAPS); Teen Challenge International, USA; and Youth Alive. Currently, there are more than 950 missionaries and over 600 endorsed chaplains serving under AGUSM, with 5,000 other related field personnel.

Prior to leading U.S. missions, Smith served as the executive presbyter representing the Ethnic Fellowships and as president of the National Black Fellowship. He served the New Jersey District of the Assemblies of God as assistant superintendent (1998-2005) and as executive secretary (2005-07).

Smith served as pastor of Eternal Life Christian Center (ELCC) of the Assemblies of God, Somerset, New Jersey for 15 years. During his pastorate, the church grew to over 300 members and completed a $2.7 million educational enrichment center. Prior to ELCC, Smith pioneered a church that later became Plainfield Assembly of God, a New Jersey district affiliate.

Smith holds a masters degree in business management with emphasis on non-profit organizations from Regent University, a bachelors degree in criminology and criminal justice from Florida State University, and a diploma in ministerial studies from Berean Bible College. Smith has spent his life in service as a former police officer/detective; U.S. Postal Inspector; and Airborne Infantryman in the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Smith and his wife, Phyllis of over forty years, have six daughters and five grandchildren.

As executive director of AGWM, Greg Mundis provides leadership for 2,708 AG missionaries and associates serving in 252 countries, territories and provinces.

A native of Ohio, Mundis grew up in the Youngstown area. He accepted Christ at age 13 while attending a military chapel service in Fort Gordon, Georgia, while visiting his sister. Returning home, he soon began attending a small Italian Pentecostal church and was baptized in the Holy Spirit.

After high school, Mundis enrolled at Youngstown State University to study political science, but his plans soon changed. At a Sunday evening church service, he was praying at the altar when he sensed God’s call to ministry. A message in tongues and interpretation confirmed God’s plan for his life.

Mundis transferred to Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies. Afterward, he and his wife, Sandie, served as youth pastors at a church in Lima, Ohio, before returning to Springfield in 1974. For the next four years they were youth pastors at Central Assembly of God.

While listening to a description of the spiritual needs in Austria, Mundis felt an overwhelming burden for the nation and its people. In response to God’s call, the Mundises were appointed as missionaries to Austria and arrived in Salzburg in 1980. While learning German, they quickly became involved in church planting, media and education.

In 1987, Mundis cofounded an international church, Vienna Christian Center, and served as pastor for four years. The church has since grown into a flourishing congregation of more than 1,800 people meeting in several locations throughout the city.

Mundis was named area director for Central Europe in 1991. When AGWM made the Europe region a distinct entity in 1998, Mundis was selected as its first regional director. For the next 13 years he developed strategies to increase ministries to the region’s cities, campuses and children and helped raise awareness of the culturally diverse communities created by the swell of immigrants coming to the region. He also initiated greater communication among missionaries involved in similar ministries across Europe by providing opportunities for them to network and exchange ideas. In 2011, he was elected as AGWM executive director.

Mundis, teaming with the AGWM Executive Committee, is focusing on the future by emphasizing global partnerships, the suffering church, and unreached people groups.

In addition to a bachelor’s degree, Mundis earned a master’s degree in theology from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield and a doctorate in ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. He and Sandie have two children and eight grandchildren.
