Many people know of the fact that Rik Mayall suffered a brain injury as the result of a quad bike incident but not everyone realised after his accident that he suffered with epilepsy.
We love the fact that he was not defined by his epilepsy, he was Rik Mayall anarchic comedy legend who made millions laugh and cry with his insanely crazy and egotistical characters not forgetting that he was A Bastard who we all loved to hate. He was not simply that guy with epilepsy… He was a true Legend!
Riks family are in our thoughts today, a husband and father who will be sadly missed, our candle is lit in tribute.
Rik Mayall 7 March 1958 – 9 June 2014

I am saddened by your loss and the loss of a brilliant actor … my main memory and that of my children is his character drop dead fred .. we all love this film and have several copies of it so now my grandchildren also enjoy it very much .. I also have epilepsy as the result of a stroke and was very shocked to find out he did also .. I now see him as a great inspiration as it obviously never held him back .. our thoughts and prayers are with you all xxxx

We were deeply saddened when we read this terrible news. We have been huge fans of Rik throughout his whole career, which started when we were just children. We were privileged to have seen him live in a Bottom show in Bournemouth many years ago & our tummies & jaws really hurt from all the laughing! Just recently we screamed with laughter at his performance in Man Down, he stole the show in all his scenes! Our 12 year old son, Samuel, has Angelman Syndrome & Epilepsy so can relate to the difficulties he & his family coped with. Sending our sincere condolences & love to his family at this sad time. XXX

Thinking of the family at this sad time. Such a sad loss to comedy, my favourite film as a child was ‘drop dead fred’ and have since followed the young ones. You will always be a great inspiration to those with epilepsy, never letting it hold you back. May you rest in peace x
