On achievement of BRICS, that groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, Modi said the footprint of intra-BRICS engagement has expanded over time to include large areas of economic activity.

His comments came amid efforts to persuade China and Russian Federation to join New Delhi's campaign to diplomatically isolate Pakistan, which India blames for cross-border terror and unrest in Kashmir.

"Economy and commerce can unlock new drivers of growth and benefit".

The Chinese leader also made a five-point proposal for the BRICS nations to join hands in tough times, including building an open world, mapping out a shared development vision, coping with the most pressing global challenges, safeguarding fairness and justice in the worldwide community, and deepening partnerships within the bloc.

Pakistan on Sunday accused Indian leaders of misleading Brics members with remarks that Pakistan was the "mothership of terrorism". The lender was officially launched a year later.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged BRICS leaders on Sunday to take a strong united stand against the "mother ship of terrorism" in the South Asian region, in a thinly veiled reference to Pakistan.

He also said that the Shanghai-based bank had approved loans to develop the renewable energy sector.

Despite the recent problems that each member state was facing internally and on the global level, it seems that BRICS countries are willing to stand by their principles, showing that with initiatives like the organization's own New Development Bank, and the proposed rating agency for emerging economies, together they can protect their interests and work effectively towards common goals.

"The past decade has seen BRICS partnership expanding with win-win results", he said.

In an address at a meeting with the BRICS Business Council, Chinese President Xi Jinping said despite slower growth rates, "BRICS' potential and advantages in resources, market and labor has not changed, and the long-term development potential remains huge".

"The people of Indian Occupied Kashmir are being subjected to genocide by India for demanding their fundamental right to self determination", said Sartaj Aziz, foreign policy adviser to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

"In our own region, terrorism poses a grave threat to peace, security and development".

Like her, Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" and Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, who in their speeches collectively expressed solidarity with India, in view of the series of terrorist strikes, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also condemned the terror strike and said that her country has "zero tolerance to terrorism and violent extremism". It nurtures a mindset.

Modi called for a comprehensive convention on worldwide terrorism, and his bilateral meeting with Xi on Saturday was mainly taken up with terrorism, according to Indian officials.

Hitting out at Islamabad's continued support to terror aimed not just at India but the world, Modi said there was a need for close coordination on tracking sources of terrorist financing and targeting of hardware of terrorism, including weapon supplies, ammunition, equipment and training.
