Bloodstone - The Hero's Gemstones

Where is bloodstone found? Most of the worlds mines are located in Australia, Brazil, Czech Republic, China, Germany, India, Russia, Scotland and Wyoming USA.

What we call the bloodstone is a combination of green chalcedony (a mixture of quartz and moganite) and inclusions of iron oxide or red jasper. Occasionally the stone is found with yellow inclusions and in this form is it called plasma.

Bloodstone Historical, Healing, Metaphysical and Magickal properties

At one time, bloodstone was known as Heliotrope. The word heliotrope is composed of the greek word for "the sun", helios and the greek word for "to turn", trepein. The first historical uses of the gemstone were to cause changes in the weather. It was believed if you put a bloodstone in water and allowed that water (and the gemstone) to absorb the rays of the sun, it would cause a storm to rise up in the area.

During the Middle Ages, the red spots on the gemstones were believed to be the blood of Jesus and the early Christians thought the stone held all the supposed powers of Jesus, including the ability to make the wearer invisible.

Some believe when Jesus was on the cross, his blood fell on jasper on the ground at the foot of the cross and this is how bloodstone was created. It was said that the stones from that area held tremendous ability to heal almost anything and the gemstone was given the nickname "The Martyr's Stone" because of it.

A hero's gemstone, often seen in armor breast plates and on swords for it's ability to arouse courage in the most dangerous situations. Also considered to be a very strong healing gemstone allowing the wearer to remain strong in battle long after those around you have fallen.

In ancient times, warriors carried a bloodstone amulet into battle with them because it was thought that if the amulet was applied to a wound, it would cause the wound to quit bleeding.

Rather than removing us from not so calm situations, Bloodstone helps us to see how much better we will be when we come out the other end of the confrontation.

Makes a great gift for anyone that earns their living from their art. It promotes creativity, self-expression, and artistry.

In the Middle Ages, bloodstone was crushed into a powder, mixed with honey and eggs and given to patients to cure tumors. A paste made of crushed bloostone gemstone and honey was rubbed on cuts to stop excess bleeding.

To help heal a snakebite, afix a bloodstone (with a bandaid or elastic bandage) to draw the poison out of the bite. NOTE: This was an ancient use of the stone. I might do this while on my way to get medical help but to do this instead of getting medical help would be foolish.

The ancient babylonians used engraved bloodstone in divinations. They used the way the various spots of red looked to tap into their psychic abilities, creating an affect similar to a vision by following the layout of the spots.

To purify your mind, body and soul, on the night of the full moon, find a place outside where you can lay under the moons light. Place a bloodstone gemstone on your forehead and as you lay there, visualize the moon's energy entering your body, filling it with pure white light, as your body fills, see all the negativity, illness and stress from your body, leaving from the back side of your body and sinking into the ground beneath you.

Ancient Egyptians used bloodstone magic to help them win in battles. They used magically empowered gemstones as amulets for the warriors to increase their personal strength.

To become "invisible" to your enemies, wear or carry a bloodstone and visualize a cloak of energy emanating from the stone, then wrapping around you. This makes you invisible to those you do not want to see you. It helps take you off the radar of those that would seek to harm you.

Athletes can use a bloodstone amulet to help increase their strength and speed. Wear or carry the gemstone and visualize its energy entering your body and causing your muscles to become stronger (or faster).

This same magic can be used by anyone in need of courage to get through a situation. Just visualize the energies entering the body and giving you the aspects that you need.

If you know of someone that tends to be a little too "me" oriented, give them a gift of a bloodstone gemstone. It helps them to see how things affect not just them but others around them or even the entire world.

In Germany, bloodstone is called bluestone and Hematite is called bloodstone (according to Wikipedia)

Wearing or carrying a bloodstone helps to strengthen the immune system, cleanse toxins from the liver and kidney's and purify the bone marrow. Makes and excellent stone for women because it helps to relieve both menstrual and menopausal symptoms.
