Ware have signed former Wolves and Rangers U21 right winger Mekhi McLeod in a bid to help their push up the Ryman North table.

The 20-year-old, who had been on trial at Vanarama National League side Dagenham & Redbridge, made his Ware debut in the 3-1 midweek win at Tilbury, coming on as a substitute for Aston Goss in the 73rd minute.

He made an immediate impact, almost scoring from a tight angle only to be denied by a good save from the Daggers keeper.

"He's been with us for a few weeks now, but because of his contract with Glasgow Rangers we had to get international clearance," said Ware boss Ken Charlery.

"From what I've seen of him in training and last night he brings us a different dimension to what we've got in terms of wing play.

"He's very exciting and very quick. He went past a couple of players last night like they weren't there, and I think he will add a great new dimension to our front line.

"I know the coach at Dagenham and Redbridge and have got football friends down there, and when they get players to come to trial with them I give them a call and ask about them.

"They told me about Mekhi, and said he will excite the crowd and get bums on seats.

"They said he should do this level [Ryman North] comfortably. He's played a couple of U21 games with them, but wasn't quite ready for them.

"I hope he stays around for us. If he does well for us obviously Dagenham may come in and want him back – but all levels of players who come to us want to go higher.

"If they are good enough I don't get in anybody's way if that's the case, because I've been in that position myself.

"His feet are firmly on the floor – he's not any big time Charlie and he just wants to progress and get through the back doors.

"He tried it up north now he wants to try down here – hopefully he can do it with us and go on from there.

"He's officially our player at the moment – he's a full signing."

Ware face Brentwood at home tomorrow (October 22).

"That will be a tough game, they had a good win on Tuesday."

Every game gives us a different challenge but I'm prepared, and we're prepared, to take those challenges head on.

"I hope with Mekhi's signing we can get more people through the turnstiles, and not just to watch him, but to see us get the results we want."

Ware gained their first away win in the league against Tilbury on Tuesday night (October 18), with Brian Haule, who missed the Maldon game

opening the scoring, and a brace from Gareth Price sealing the result.

The hosts netted from the penalty spot at the death after an unlucky slip by Marcus Rose caused him to handle the ball in the area.

"Any manager would love that response after Saturday's defeat – it makes the team talk a lot easier than when you get beaten the way we did against Maldon with a no show," said Charlery.

"It was a good performance all round and a deserved victory. I'm very happy to win 3-1 away from home – we would have won it 3-0 but for the silly penalty at the end.

"To have Brian [Haule] back made a big difference. He's a different sort of striker to what the league is used to.

"It proved he's a massive cog in our chain and he got the opening goal which settled all of the nerves.

"Price got the second with a great left foot finish from 20 yards, and that really was the icing on the cake.

"Tilbury didn't give up, they kept on knocking on the door in the second half, but we had the better of the chances.

"We were comfortable. We've dominated games throughout the season and not got the results, the win against Tilbury was just reward.

"It's pleasing when we dominate and take chances. "It's much easier for me to go in at half-time and say to them all 'well done' about this thing and that.

"It makes things a lot more comfortable for us."
