Russell H Webber was born in Norwood, Massachusetts on October 22, 1924 to Edgar Webber and Margaret (Colbert) Webber.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on January 12th, 1942 and was assigned to the 1st Marine Division as a light machine gun crewman. He participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal (including the battle at Bloody Ridge)from Sept 18 1942 - Jan 4 1943. on September 15, 1944, he fought at Peleliu (in the Palau islands) and was wounded there on September 29th, earning one of the two Purple Hearts he was awarded. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class and returned to Norwood where he worked for Bird & Son's in East Walpole.

He was a founding member of the 1st Marine Division Reuinion Association in Boston after the war and was extremely proud of his Marine service throughout his lifetime. He marched in the annual Norwood 4th of July parade for many years and was chosen as the Grand Marshall of the parade in 2004.

He worked as a custiodian for the Norwood School Department from the 1960's into the 1980's, working in every school in town at one point or another. He retired from the school department in 1987 and volunteered as a playground monitor until 1989.

In 1952, he married Florence Howard from neighboring Dedham, Massachusetts, and in the early 1960's they bought the house on Nahatan St in Norwood where he lived until his death in 2005. They raised 7 children in the house, and later, several grandchildren as well.

He was a devoted father to all his children: Cynthia Molloy of Franklin and Richard, Todd, Sharon (Curtis), Jeffrey C. , & Mark Webber all of Norwood and the late James C. Webber. Also survived by 15 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren. Brother of Edgar & Kenneth Webber both of Norwood and Phyllis Smith of NH. Brother in law of Angie Webber of Norwood.

He had a great sense of humor and loved to sing, never missing a chance to attend karaoke night at local bars and pubs. Notorious for having a stubborn streak and a dislike for authority, he was just as well known for his generosity. He was always willing to do you a favor, even if it took him out of his way or caused him an inconvenience, but if you crossed him watch out! He was loved and respected and very much missed by friends and family.

Another year gone by, but the memories you left behind haven't faded one bit. Miss you terribly.
