Day of free train travel for Perth residents

The West Australia Government will forego $50,000 in revenue next Monday by offering free travel on all of Perth's trains.

The move is part of the celebrations to mark the extension of the northern suburbs rail line and the opening of the new Clarkson station.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan says the Government is investing a lot of money in public transport and the "free trains" will hopefully encourage more people to use it.

"We're unashamed about promoting public transport, we're a Government that has a great commitment to public transport and we've got to get people out of their cars onto our trains and we need to promote that and this part of our promotional activity," she said.
