ELECTRIFIED BY BMW i.

BMW iPerformance: Plug-in hybrids with BMW i know-how.

Experience has always been a key factor in implementing innovative automotive concepts. And in the BMW plug-in hybrids, this influence has been particularly valuable. Their drive system consists of an efficient combustion engine and a powerful electric motor. This is how they combine the typical BMW qualities with the advantages of electric driving and thus profit directly from the expertise of the BMW i engineers to such an extent that they deserve their own designation: BMW iPerformance Automobiles.

Driving pleasure, free of emissions.

BMW eDrive.

The intelligent and dynamic way to drive electrically.

The BMW iPerformance vehicles use the BMW eDrive electric drive technology developed by BMW i. They are able to cover short and medium distances purely electrically with the innovative combination of electric motor, lithium-ion battery and intelligent energy management. The TwinPower Turbo petrol engine is activated when needed. BMW eDrive is currently offered for the BMW 2 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 7 Series and the BMW X5 (as of May 2016).

PERFECT FOR SHORT, MIDDLE AND LONG DISTANCE.

In the BMW iPerformance models, an efficient combustion engine works in perfect harmony with a powerful electric motor. The conventional drive offers the range while the electric drive scores particularly highly in urban traffic, thanks to its zero emissions and almost silent driving dynamics. The BMW 740e, for example, can cover up to 48 km purely electrically. The lithium-ion battery can be recharged from the BMW i Wallbox, at public charging stations and from any standard household socket.

Figures for the BMW 740e iPerformance:
Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 2.2 to 2.0
CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 50 to 45
Power consumption in kWh/100 km (combined): 13.1 to 12.5

  • In AUTO eDRIVE mode, intelligent energy management determines the most efficient combination of electric motor and combustion engine – according to driving speed and battery charge level.

  • Depending on the model, it is possible to drive at a speed of up to 140 km/h purely electrically in MAX eDRIVE mode. At higher speeds or if the full acceleration potential needs to be exploited, the combustion engine switches on automatically.

  • In SAVE BATTERY or Battery Control mode (in the BMW 7 Series), the battery is efficiently charged by the combustion engine or has its charge level maintained. This enables the battery capacity to be actively saved for purely electric driving at a later stage.

iPERFORMANCE AT A GLANCE.

The BMW plug-in hybrid models systematically pursue the BMW EfficientDynamics strategy. Apart from the “e” in the model designation, the following optical features will enable you to recognise a BMW iPerformance model as soon as you see one.

Blue kidney grille slats.

The kidney grille slats in typical BMW i blue accentuate the front of the BMW iPerformance models.

Blue wheel hub covers.

The exclusive blue wheel hub covers of the BMW iPerformance models are reminiscent of the BMW i8.

BMW i logo.

Located on the front side wall behind the wheel housing is the BMW i logo, which indicates the direct know-how transfer from BMW i.

eDrive lettering.

The eDrive lettering on the C pillar behind the Hofmeister kink indicates the electric drive technology.

Charging.

BMW iPerformance is more than a designation for plug-in hybrid models, it is part of a sustainable mobility strategy. As is the case with the BMW i3 or BMW i8, the 360° ELECTRIC programme is available for use. This offers decisive benefits that range from installing a BMW i Wallbox and arranging a suitable green energy contract through to accessing to the world’s largest network of public charging stations. Other features available for every BMW iPerformance model are the BMW Connected App and efficient routes highlighted in the navigation system by means of ECO ROUTE.

The figures for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption depend on the wheel and tyre sizes selected. Consumtion data is determined in accordance to the ECE driving cycle.

The driving range depends on a variety of factors, especially: personal driving behaviour, selected route, weather conditions, usage of heating/cooling and preconditioning.

Further information about the official fuel consumption and the official specific CO2 emissions for new passenger automobiles can be found in the 'New Passenger Vehicle Fuel Consumption and CO2 Emission Guidelines', which are available free of charge at all sales outlets and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern, Germany.
