Receiver Tutorial 9
Next we will fit the feed tray and feed cover. The feed tray should fit
tight and flat on the receiver for the feed cover to close properly.
The feed cover sits in the grooves on the sides of the receiver so be
sure to clean up the welds good in this area. The length is set by the jig so
the cover should close and latch without a lot of fitting.
Now fit the stock and grip. The stock should fit with no problems if your
threads are good in the rear section, if the grip was properly fitted before
welding it should also fit with little or no work.
Next fit the recuperator and buffer latch, you can also test fit the safety
at this time.
Now that all the easy stuff is done we will move on to the bolt.
Fitting the bolt is a time consuming task. Be prepared to spend several
hours getting it to fit properly. The bolt channel will have to be polished out
smooth. Some areas can be done with the Dremel, but most will have to be
smoothed out with a file. Pay close attention to the welded areas, specially
the corners, a buildup of weld the thickness of a hair will bind the bolt. A
piece of wood with a 1" sander belt is handy to have to do the final
polishing.
Once the bolt fits properly you are ready to move onto the semi mods
for the bolt and grip.
