Clown reportedly startles student / 10-6-16

A Thornapple Kellogg Middle School student received quite the fright Tuesday morning while heading to the bus stop. The student reported seeing a person dressed as a clown emerge from a wooded area around 6:30 a.m. Running toward other students waiting at the bus stop, the student said the clown disappeared into a different wooded area shortly after he was sighted. Capt. Scott Matice of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office said the individual did not approach the bus stop or students and was not located. The Allegan Sheriff’s department contacted the Barry County Sheriff’s Office and the school district in case there were other sightings of the jovial figure, however none were reported.

This is just one of many recent reports of clown sightings in Michigan, and the first in the Banner’s readership area. Tuesday, a creepy clown following cars was reported in Clinton Township. According to a New York Times article, clown sightings began in late August in Greenville County, South Carolina, and have grown in number and geographic area since that time.
