Music

When nerds can't find the words...they write music! Windycon has a long-standing tradition of showcasing some of the best performers around and a reputation for friendly, open music circles. We are fortunate to have some of the best musicians in the Midwest returning to Windycon this year and excited to present some new faces to you.

Concerts

The following performances are scheduled for Windycon 43. Please click on their names to transport to their web presence, listen to their music, buy all their CDs, and then come enjoy them in person at the con where you can schmooze with them after their concerts or in the Open Music Circles. New This Year!

We are excited to have Dan the Bard of the Bristol Renaissance Faire back at Windycon, especially because he will be joining us for the entire weekend! Find him in the lobby, near Registration, or perhaps roaming the halls sharing his wonderful repertoire of gaming, fantasy, and fun songs set in Renaissance style and played on period instruments. He will be happy to play your request or sing you something new (and he does have a lot of new songs!).

Open Music Circles

There will be Open Music Circles on Friday and Saturday nights beginning at approximately 10pm. These circles are for everyone and may include a capella singers, solo instrumentalists, spoken word, jam-a-longs, improvisations, and other offerings on any topic imaginable – sci-fi, fantasy, hard science, comedy, romance, aliens, gaming, animals, etc. and every musical style/genre you can imagine. We have a tradition of "polite Midwest chaos", which means that we pay attention to making sure everyone who has something to share gets a chance to do so before folks take another turn, but not necessarily going strictly around the circle in bardic fashion. There also tends to be a lot of musical collaboration, harmony, and jamming - but of course you may request otherwise, or conversely invite everyone to join in with you if you like.

Both Open Music Circles are in Lilac A/C and will probably run well into the wee hours of the morning.

Dead Dog Music Circle

There will be a Dead Dog Music Circle on Sunday afternoon going until the last musician drops or we are required to vacate the room. Join us in Lilac B on Sunday from 3:00pm until...???

Other Music Programming

We have other stuff! We are currently putting together panels and workshops on a variety of topics – professional gigging, kids' filk concert, songwriting, gadgets and gizmos, road stories "No s***, there I was on the stage, and...") and anything else we can convince our multi-faceted musicians to talk or teach about.
