In this generously illustrated book, Anne Hollander examines the representation of the body and clothing in Western art, from Greek sculpture and vase painting through medieval and renaissance portraits, to contemporary films and fashion photography. First published ahead of its time, this book has become a classic.

A fascinating analysis of something we all use on a daily basis & take for granted: clothing & the significance of clothing. As always & as with all her books, the erudite Ms. Hollander presents her theories & informative views eloquently. This is a must read for anyone who is so much as remotely interested in clothes & sartorial history.
