The newly revised AAFCO Pet and Specialty Pet Labeling Guide is now available

The AAFCO Pet Food Committee is pleased to announce that the newly revised AAFCO Pet and Specialty Pet Labeling Guide is now available for purchase! This guide was originally developed to help control officials, industry, and other interested parties to better understand and interpret the AAFCO Model Regulations for Pet Food and Specialty Pet Food. This revised version contains valuable explanations of common labeling issues as well as label examples designed to assist the pet label reviewer or developer to follow the current AAFCO Model Regulations. 2016 AAFCO Dog and Cat Food Nutrient Profiles Errors

It has come to AAFCO’s attention that there are errors in 2016 AAFCO Dog and Cat Food Nutrient Profiles. These errors appear in the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles Based on Dry Matter Table found on pages 153–155 and in the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles Based on Calorie Content Table found on pages 166–167 of the 2016 Official Publication (OP). Further review found additional minor errors in the table Example B2 found on page 174–175 and in the table Example B3 found on page 175 in the section Correcting for Energy Density. Welcome to AAFCO

The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) is a voluntary membership association of local, state and federal agencies charged by law to regulate the sale and distribution of animal feeds and animal drug remedies.

Purpose and Function of AAFCO

Although AAFCO has no regulatory authority, the Association provides a forum for the membership and industry representation to achieve three main goals:

Safeguarding the health of animals and humans
Ensure consumer protection
Providing a level playing field of orderly commerce for the animal feed industry.

These goals are achieved by developing and implementing uniform and equitable laws, regulations, standards, definitions and enforcement policies for regulating the manufacture, labeling, distribution and sale of animal feeds - resulting in safe, effective and useful feeds by promoting uniformity amongst member agencies.
