Nevada School Accountability System

There will be no new School Ratings for the 2015-2016 School Year

In December of 2015, President Obama reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) by signing the bi-partisan Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Under ESSA, Nevada’s ESEA waiver which describes the current Nevada accountability system expired in August of 2016. ESSA does not require states to post ratings for schools until the fall of 2018.

No final decisions about the Nevada school accountability system have been made. Underperforming Schools

Landmark legislation from the 2015 Legislative Session supported by Governor Sandoval resulted in a renewed focus on and commitment onto Nevada’s underperforming schools. These schools were identified as underperforming based on the student achievement data from the 2013-2014 school year. The list of underperforming schools can be found here: underperforming schools list. Title I Focus and Priority identified schools under the NV ESEA Waiver will continue to implement school improvement plans through the 2016-2017 school year. Under ESSA, schools will be identified for targeted and comprehensive supports by the 2017-2018 school year.
