Number of Sealing Reports by County

NOTE: Approximately 72,500 well sealing reports have been submitted to the ODNR. Of those forms, we have entered approximately 58,500 into the well record database. This leaves just over 14,000 paper forms that are in the process of being entered. Before conducting a well sealing report search, please look at the table below to see the status of the data entry for your desired county. A search of the paper files can be conducted by ODNR staff if not all the well sealing reports are in the database. The Water Well Sealing Report form was designed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) in the mid 1980’s in response to the increasing number of wells that were being abandoned. Providing this form to drilling contractors and the public makes it possible for the person sealing the well to document how the well was sealed. This form is now required to be filed per the Ohio Revised Code 1521.05.

Number of Located Wells by County

NOTE: Conducting any of the locational searches (using either  latitude/longitude or state plane) will not return 100% of the water well  records that exist for your specified area because most of the water well records were submitted without coordinate data.  View the Located Well  Log County table below to determine the number of well records that are  located for each county.  For most cases, it will be necessary to also conduct a Custom Data Search using street names or owner company name to  extract all the well records for an area.
