Launch the Oil and Gas Well Locator

The Ohio Oil & Gas Well Locator is an interactive map that allows users to search for oil and gas wells and related information in the state of Ohio.

Below is a list of basic instructions for use of the locator that detail the options and types of searches available.

Basic Instructions

The Oil and Gas Well Locator defaults to the view above when opened. Below are a list of icons and palettes that are visible at default.

Base Map

The base map feature allows for three types of views: aerial (2), street (3), and topographical (4). The viewer defaults to the street view when opened, but can be changed to a different view through the base map palette (1).

Well Search

The well search palette (1) allows for searches by either well or parcel (2). The layer field search (3) provides well search options including well API, well name, well company name, and company name or foundation. The layer field search provides options of PIN, statewide PIN, and parcel I.D. for parcel searches. All searches have the option of being queried through text entry (4) or spatial relation (5).

Identify

The identify palette (1) provides the ability to identify features on the map by either point (2) or rectangle (3) selection.

Find Address or Coordinates

The address finder palette (1) allows for searches by address (2) or global positioning coordinates (3).

County Bookmarks

The county bookmarks palette (1) provides an alphabetical listing of counties (2) that are bookmarked for quick location. Bookmarks can also be added (3).

Township Search

The township search palette (1) allows for queries by township name. Results are listed by township and county in Ohio. Searches are available through both text entry (2) and spatial relation options (3).

Draw & Measures

The draw and measure palette (1) provides seven options to draw and define areas on the map: by point, line, rectangle, circle, ellipse, polygon, or by adding text. Area and distance fields are provided within most drawing options to define measurements of the drawn areas. Style options are also provided, including fill, outline, and opacity (alpha).

The Oil and Gas Well Locator was implemented in December 2012.
