McConnell: Trump AG Pick Sessions ‘Principled,’ ‘Hardworking’

Sen. Jeff Sessions, the Ala. Republican President-elect Donald Trump wants to be his attorney general, "has worked tirelessly to safeguard the public and to improve the lives of Americans from all walks of life," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says in statement.

  • McConnell says he "strongly supports" Sessions for AG
  • Incoming Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer says just because Sessions is a senator, he won’t be absolved from answering tough questions during confirmation hearings
  • "Given some of his past statements and his staunch opposition to immigration reform, I am very concerned about what he would do with the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice and want to hear what he has to say," Schumer says in statement
