Strom Thurmond Institute
The Strom Thurmond Institute was created on October 29, 1981, when Senator Thurmond announced his decision to place at Clemson University, his alma mater, the papers and memorabilia spanning his more than 65 years of public service.  In his honor STI was developed to be the flagship public policy research center within the university.  STI carries on its mission by serving business, government, and community constituents through objective research, outstanding graduate education, and public service programs for the state and region.
Jim Self Center on the Future
The Jim Self Center on the Future conducts research, education, and policy analysis dedicated to addressing the issues that have an effect on South Carolina’s competitive advantage and quality of life. By developing linkages between the academic community and the public realm, the Center provides a forum for studying South Carolina’s important issues, alternative solutions and policy development.  The ultimate objective of these efforts is to mobilize the resources that can accelerate the pace of positive and responsible change.   Read More...
Policy Studies  
The PhD in policy studies program is designed around interdisciplinary precepts and built upon the subject matter strengths of a land-grant University.  The program integrates the social sciences with the specific fields of interest, enabling you to be grounded in the basics of policy studies, while preparing you to conduct high-level research, emphasizing quantitative, economic and political skills to solve public problems.

Master of Public Administration
The Clemson MPA program offers a highly interactive online curriculum with live and hybrid courses that allow students to have a face-to-face learning experience and participate in interactive group activities. The program provides a unique opportunity for sharing information from different public sectors, offering a rigorous interdisciplinary graduate experience.

Calhoun Lecture Series
The Calhoun Lecture Series exists as a tribute to Strom Thurmond and John C. Calhoun as well as to the series’ founding member, Dr. William H. Hunter.  The series strives to bring speakers of regional, national and international acclaim to the Clemson campus to provide thoughtful discussion on public policy and other concerns of contemporary society.

The Strom Thurmond Institute of Government and Public Affairs conducts applied research and service in public policy areas at the local, regional, state and national levels. The Institute draws upon the expertise of Clemson University faculty, staff and students and has an established record of collaborative partnerships with academic, governmental and private sector scholars throughout the world. The Institute also enhances awareness of current public policy issues on the Clemson campus and throughout the state and region through informal and formal educational programs. The Institute sponsors research and public service programs to enhance civic awareness of public policy issues and improve the quality of national, state and local government. The Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, tax-exempt public policy research organization.

STI is Clemson University's flagship public policy research institute, serving business, government, and community constituents through objective research, outstanding graduate education, and public service programs for the state and region.

STI program areas include water and environmental management analysis, economic analysis, tax education and budget policy, rural economic development, and related issues.
