This weekend we enter the month of September, which is officially designated as Suicide Prevention Month. Chaplains have a sacred role in caring for those who are hurting and have lost all hope. This public service announcement is a reminder of our role in caring for others, and provides resources for those we serve.

Operation Freedom Support Thanks you for all you do! It is reassuring to know that our men and women have Chaplains to offer support with any situation they may... struggle with. Our troops need support from everyone. Thus the reason I started a cause to support our troops who are deployed on Navy ships. My son is deployed on the USS WASP LHD 1 along with the USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41) and the USS San Antonio (LPD-17). I have sent packages to the Chaplains on the ships with magazines to share with the soldiers aboard. I'm hoping to get the word out of Operation Freedom Support in hopes to reach all ships that get deployed. Thanks again for all that you do. See More

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the po...wer, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. ROMANS 13:1-7 See More

Happy 241st Anniversary Navy Chaplain Corps! We had a wonderful celebration in the Navy Capital Region this past week. Many thanks to RDML Rock, Commandant Naval District Washington, for his inspirational words and for celebrating with us.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Jonathan Craig for his selection as one of the 2016 Witherspoon Award winners. The Witherspoon Award is given by the National Bible Association to recognize military chaplains from the Air Force, Army, and Navy for their creative use of the Christian Scriptures in the delivery of ministry. Chaplain Craig was recognized as the Navy recipient in Washington, DC on November 16th for his work at Arlington National Cemetery and the Surface Force Ministry Center in Mayport, FL.

'Chaplain Craig, his wife Susanna, Chaplain Kibben, and his endorser, Brigadier General Doug Lee (retired) are pictured standing next to the award.'

Our Religious Ministry Teams in Bahrain and the surrounding area of operations are exemplifying the very best of our Chaplain Corps. Their collaborative spirit and contagious enthusiasm is motivating and encouraging. It was a joy to visit the teams at Naval Station Bahrain, celebrate 241 years of the Navy Chaplain Corps, and engage with our chaplains, Religious Program Specialists, and Sailors currently deployed on the USS Eisenhower. May God continue to bless these chaplains and the Sailors who support them as they deliver religious ministry to our service members in the 5th Fleet.

Happy Birthday Marines! Thank you for 241 years of honorable service and courageous sacrifice to our nation. May God continue to bless the Corps for many years to come. Semper Fidelis.

Our chaplains and enlisted personnel have the opportunity to serve in very exciting and challenging environments. I am encouraged by the efforts of our religious ministry teams as they minister to service members at Fort Gordon, GA and Kings Bay, GA.

I am having a great visit at the Naval Chaplaincy School and Center meeting with our new chaplains, chaplain candidates, and enlisted sailors supporting religious programs. What a good looking group! Chaplain Stan Beach saved my life and record when I went AWOL for 4 ...days after severe sexual trauma by my unit '74-'76. 40 years of silence, my identity is scarred. I hope he is still alive to know I survived. Ironically, his advocacy "kept (my) honor clean", yet removed any evidence I had of those events. I want you to know. See More

Chaplain Stan Beach saved my life and record in Iwakuni, II MAW, 197...5-77. Sexual abuse by my unit was 4o years ago, yet still tears at me. Ihope he is still alive to know I am still alive. His advocacy "kept my honor clean". Ironically, his interventions on my behalf, removed all record of my AWOL, sparing me potential charges, brig, dishonourable discharge....I now have no evidence of those events. See More
