Consul General Phillip A. Min

Consul General Phillip A. Min assumed the post of U.S. Consul General in Chennai on September 18, 2014. His prior foreign assignments with the U.S. Department of State include tours in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Warsaw, Poland; Seoul, Korea; Tokyo, Japan; Bogota, Colombia; and Karachi, Pakistan.  His Washington experience has included service in the Office of the Executive Director in the Bureau of Consular Affairs and in the Office of Japanese Affairs.

Consul General Min earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and did graduate work in East Asian Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle.  He received a Master of Science degree in National Security Policy from the National Defense University in Washington D.C.

Consul General Min was born in the Washington D.C. area and considers his home base in the U.S. to be split between New Jersey and Northern Virginia.  He joined the U.S. Department of State in 1987 and became a career member of the Senior Foreign Service in 2012.  He is married to Eun Young Lee, a classical pianist.
