Virginia Blaser, Chargé d'Affaires

Virginia Blaser arrived in Dar es Salaam in summer 2013 as the Deputy Chief of Mission and assumed duties as Chargé d’Affaires upon the Ambassador’s departure in October 2016.

Prior to serving in Tanzania, she was the DCM to the U.S. Embassy in Kampala, Uganda.  Virginia also served as the DCM to the U.S. Mission covering both Mauritius and the Seychelles from 2007 to 2010.  

Since joining the U.S. Foreign Service in 1989, Virginia has served in a variety of posts including Madrid, Brussels, London, San Salvador, and Washington, in a range of political, management and consular positions, including four collective years as Chargé.  

Virginia graduated cum laude from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, with a triple major in history, anthropology and Latin American studies.  She also studied at the Fundación Jose Ortega y Gasset in Madrid, Spain. 

She is accompanied by her husband, Mitch Blaser, a technology consultant, and their four children.
