Jason Osberg, of Champaign, Illinois, incoming commander of the Illinois Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 106th Aviation Regiment, based in Peoria, Illinois, receives the battalion colors from Brig. Gen. Michael Zerbonia of Chatham, Illinois, the Assistant Adjutant General – Army, Illinois National Guard, during the 106th’s battalion change of command ceremony at Army Aviation Support Facility #3 in Peoria, Illinois, July 9. Peoria, Illinois – The Illinois Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 106th Aviation Regiment based in Peoria, Illinois welcomed its new commander and bid farewell to its previous commander during a change of command ceremony at Army Aviation Support Facility #3 in Peoria, Illinois, June 9.

Maj. Gen. Richard Hayes, Jr., The Adjutant General, Illinois National Guard, and a delegation of other Illinois National Guardsmen, travelled to Washington, D.C. May 23-24 to accept awards for being one of the “most improved” Army communities as part of the 2016 Army Communities of Excellence (ACOE) Program.

died July 11 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
