Currently serving his seventh term in The Maine Senate, representing the people of Windham, Raymond, Standish, Casco, Baldwin and Frye Island, Sen. Bill Diamond has had a distinguished career in public service. 

Sen. Diamond currently serves on the Transportation Committee and the state’s Government Oversight Committee. In previous terms, he has served as the Senate chairman of the Joint Standing Committee on Criminal Justice, and as a member of the Transportation Committee. In the 124th Legislature, he served as the chairman of Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee.

From 1989 to 1997, Sen. Diamond served as Maine’s Secretary of State. Prior to his tenure as Secretary of State, he served for three terms in the Maine House of Representatives, including one term as Majority Whip.

In addition to Sen. Diamond’s public service, he has extensive experience as a small-business owner for more than 35 years, and as a teacher, principal and interim superintendent of schools in the Windham and Raymond school systems, where he worked for 20 years. He has a masters degree in education administration. He also garnered respect as an advocate and lobbyist for eight years, helping businesses as they interacted with state government.

Sen. Diamond has lived in Windham for more than 40 years and serves as President of Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a volunteer organization supported entirely by donations, which provides heating assistance to those who have no other options.  All donations to the organization are used to purchase fuel for those in desperate need. Diamond was also a founding and served as President of the Windham Land Trust conserving hundreds of acres of land for public use.

Sen. Diamond has been married to his wife Jane for 47 years, and they are the proud parents of two adult daughters and eight grandchildren.


Board Positions

Sen. Diamond serves on the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals board of directors, where he is also treasurer.
