Definition

This is mid-level skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and steam heating systems, in accordance with standard practices of the trade.

Job Duties

Installs, maintains, and repairs steam, water, and gas line systems, pipes, valves, steam traps, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, sinks, hydrants, water coolers, dishwashers, and other plumbing fixtures and equipment.

Repairs and adjusts steam pumps and regulators, air compressors, water pumps and heaters, and steam tables.

Estimates time and materials required to complete a work order; requisitions materials as necessary.

Directs the work of assigned semi-skilled and unskilled workers makes assignments, and reviews work in progress and upon completion.

Determines work methods and proceeds with minimal technical supervision; receives assignments via work order, which may be accompanied by plans and sketches.

Receives general supervision through inspection of work for compliance with directions, plans, and/or specifications.

Performs other related work as assigned.

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Completion of a formal four-year apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Five or more years of on-the-job training as a plumber; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
