What's New
New Features in Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 7 2004Q2 Update 5

Refer to the Getting Started Guide for more information on all the features of Sun Java System Application Server 7. This section highlights features added in update releases.

High Availability Database (HADB)

The latest version of HADB 4.4.2.5 is bundled with Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 7 2004Q2 Update 5 on Solaris, Linux and Windows. HADB 4.4.x provides a new, easy-to-use administration framework through a new management system. This version of the HADB also contains a number of important bug fixes and performance enhancements.

The following high availability support is provided now on Solaris, Linux and Windows:

  • EJB Failover: EJB failover protection provides uninterrupted service without loosing state for any J2EE applications inspite of system or software crash.
  • RMI/IIOP Failover and Load Balancing: Load balancing and failover of EJB and Name Service references accessed along RMI/IIOP path.
  • HTTP/s Load Balancing and Failover: Load balancing and failover on the HTTP/S path is supported on a wide range of platforms and web servers.

Support for Sun Java System Message Queue Enterprise Edition 3.5 SP2: Sun Java System Application Server 7 is certified to work with Sun Java System Message Queue Enterprise Edition 3.5 SP2. The Enterprise Edition provides connection failover between Application Server instances and message brokers, as well as failover of durable subscriptions.

By default, Sun Java System Message Queue Platform Edition 3.5 SP2 is bundled with Sun Java System Application Server 7. To enable the failover features of Enterprise Edition for a trial period (as permitted by the license), see instructions given in Sun Java System Application Server Administration Guide. You can seamlessly upgrade the bundled Platform Edition to Enterprise Edition if you have a valid license to use the enterprise edition of the Message Queue product.

 
Features Available in Standard and Enterprise Editions

Platform Support: Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 7 2004Q2 Update 5 is available now for Solaris SPARC, Solaris x86, Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 and Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 3.0, Windows 2000 Server SP2, Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP2, Windows 2000 Professional SP2, and Windows 2003.

Standard Edition is supported on Windows XP, besides all the platforms mentioned in Platform Support.

Support for additional platforms will be available by product GA in short time. Please contact your Sun representative or partner for additional information.

Stability and Quality Fixes: This release fixes a number of performance, stability, scalability, and availability fixes, providing improved experience over Sun Java System Application Server 7 2004Q2.

J2SE 1.4.2_09 Support: Product supports latest JDK 1.4.2_09, providing additional reliability and performance.

Migration Tool: The Migration Tool (downloadable) enables seamless migration of J2EE applications from various application servers to Sun Java System Application Server Standard and Enterprise Edition 7 2004Q2. Refer to the migration program website for more details and support information.
