Driving History Records

All Kentucky drivers’ license holders have a driving history record. The record contains identifying information, any licenses that have been issued to you, any traffic conviction information, and any administrative entries regarding your driving privileges. 

The Division of Driver Licensing maintains your non-CDL record for five (5) years and a full driving history for CDL holders. The Division of Driver Licensing offers three-year driving records to the public and third party requesters. 

Three-year Driving History Records (DHR) may be obtained by anyone however, it contains no personal information such as address, social security number, and description.

Full Driving History Record (DHR) contains identifying information, any licenses that have been issued to you, any traffic conviction information, any administrative entries regarding your driving privileges; all CDL related requirements as well as other information. To obtain a full DHR on someone other than yourself you must have written consent from the driver or a subpoena.

 Online

 A three-year DHR may be obtained online at https://dhr.ky.gov​. The cost is $5.50. This option will e-mail the requested driving record within seconds of the request.​

You may also obtain either copy of your driving record for a cost of $3.00 in person at any Division of Driver Licensing Regional Field Office.

A full driving history record can be obtained from the Division of Driver Licensing in Frankfort for a cost of $3.00 in the form of a certified check or money order, made payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer. Please include your name, social security number or KY driver's license number, date of birth, and your current address in the request and mail it to:

Clearance Letters

A clearance letter from Kentucky is a certified copy of a five-year full driving history record. This letter/record is not available to purchase on-line. There are three ways to purchase a clearance letter:

 By Mail

A clearance letter can be obtained from the Division of Driver Licensing in Frankfort for a cost of $3.00 in the form of a certified check or money order, made payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer. Please include your name, social security number or KY driver's license number, date of birth, and your current address in the request and mail it to:

At a Division of Driver Licensing Regional Field Office. The cost is $3.00. Accepted methods of payment are debit, credit, money order, check and cashier’s check. The record requested will be given over the counter.
