'It was infatuation': Carrie Fisher admits she was smitten with Harrison Ford when they had a secret affair during Stars Wars

She admitted she had an affair with Harrison Ford, earlier this month, after keeping it secret for 40 years. 

And Carrie Fisher explained that she was infatuated with the actor, as she joined Ellen DeGeneres on Monday. 

The 60-year-old star looked radiant as she spilled the beans on her covert relationship with the screen legend, who played Han Solo to her Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies.

The star - who revealed she was sleeping with her co-star when she was 19 and he was a 33-year-old married father of two - wore a pink and red shirt under a dark sweater. 

Asked about the affair, Carrie covered her mouth in horror and admitted: 'I was! Yes I did.'

'No one thought it was happening at the time. I don't even know if he did,' she joked.

Ellen asked: 'Was it sexual or was it love?'

'It was infatuation' replied Carrie. 

She explained that the atmosphere on set laid the path to affairs. 

'Everybody was away from home,' she told Ellen - adding: 'So then the rules...I didn't know this...I was 19, nobody told me about location rules, or lack of rules. But you can do whatever you want [on location] as long as you film the movie.'

Carrie - who has released her autobiography The Princess Diarist - also revealed she has an unhealthy fizzy drink habit. 

She confessed to guzzling sixteen cokes a day. 

She explained the high tally to Ellen: 'Maybe 16, but I don't drink all of them. I start them and then it starts to get warm and then I you have to get another one.'

'So all in all maybe 12?' asked Ellen. 

'Maybe 12. And they have to be that cold sharp taste'.

Carrie gamely played 'Carrie Fishing for Answers', which involved her taking questions from the audience. 

The first audience member asked: 'I've been single for five years, I want to get some advice for how to get my family to stop pitying me.'

Carrie retorted: 'Stop pitying you? Start dating!'  

This prompted Ellen to check: 'You're not dating are you?'

'Not that I know of,' Carrie replied. 

The next question was: 'What advice would you give to your 30-year-old self?'

'Don't do anything you are thinking of doing. Just don't do it. Don't talk about it either. Don't tell people everything,' Carrie advised sagely.

The final question was: 'Can you find love over 60?'

'I just turned 60 so I'm gonna have to get back to you' replied Carrie, adding: 'It seems not unlikely...but it seems like one of those stories they put on line....you can find love but don't get married.' 

Carrie was also out and about signing copies of her new book.
