Biography

Leif Andersson was a member of the national team in the 1980s and first half of the 90s. The 1984 Olympic Winter Games were his first major international event, the eighth place in the individual race his best international finish. One year later he participated in his first World Championship placing 29th in the sprint race. In the 1987 World Championship he started in the sprint and individual races but without top results. The 1988 Winter Olympics saw him competing in all three possible events for the first time, including the relay, running the final leg, while at the 1989 and 1990 Worlds he ran only individual races. At the 1992 Winter Olympics Andersson had his greatest success, running the second leg to win a bronze medal with the Swedish relay team. In 1993 he took part in his fifth and final World Championships, again with his best result in the relay, which finished sixth. At Lillehammer in 1994 Andersson attended his fourth Olympic Winter Games, competing in the 20 km and the relay. In the World Cup he started regularly until the 1994-95 season but was only sporadically ranked in the top 20. He represented SK Bore, Torsby and in the 90s, Sälens IF. After his active career Andersson worked as a coach for the Swedish federation.
