Biography

Jarmo Myllys, the second Finnish goaltender at the end of 1980s and start of 1990s behind [Jukka Tammi], began his hockey career in 1981 with SaPKo Savonlinna. In 1983 Myllys joined Ilves Tampere and played three seasons with them, before joining Lukko Rauma in 1986. With Ilves, Myllys won the Finnish title in 1985 and in 1988 was named the MVP and best goaltender of the SM-liiga. In 1988 Myllys joined the Minnesota North Stars and played with them for three seasons and had one more season in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks, before returning to Finland. In Finland Myllys played one season with KooKoo Kouvola and one season with Lukko Rauma, before moving to Sweden, where he played seven seasons with Luleå HF. From 2001-03 Myllys played with Blues Espoo and finished his playing career playing with SaiPa Lappeenranta in 2003-05. Internationally Myllys won Olympic silver in 1988 and bronzes in 1994 and 1998. Myllys was World Champion in 1995, won silvers at the World Championships in 1994, 1998 and 2001 and bronze at the 1987 European Championships. He also played with the Finnish 1996 and 1997 World Championships teams. After finishing his playing career in 2005, Myllys worked as a goaltending coach with SaiPa Lappeenranta.
