Schools and Programs
Biomedical Graduate Education is an extension of the Graduate School overseeing more than 26 programs in biomedical sciences offering certificates, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in the Medical Center.
The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) educates students for careers in international affairs. Drawing on the rich resources of the nation's capital, influential practitioners join renowned scholars to prepare our students for leadership positions around the globe in the private sector, government and international and nongovernmental organizations. Six graduate degree programs form a vital foundation for graduate study at the School of Foreign Service. The programs housed at the school cater to the diverse interests and needs of more than 700 full- and part-time students from more than 60 countries. While completing their degrees, SFS graduate students may simultaneously pursue certificates in areas such as refugee and humanitarian emergencies and international business diplomacy.
The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences programs reflect the diversity and creativity of our faculty. Seen as a whole, the Graduate School reflects our Jesuit heritage, expressed through conviction that research programs should retain a healthy sense of the needs and interests of the world, and that professional programs should teach the practical value of skillful and thoughtful research. A wide variety of master’s and Ph.D. programs are available from which to choose.
The Law Center prepares its graduates to excel in legal careers from private practice to teaching and public service. It is an educational institution dedicated to the principle that law is but a means – justice is the end. With this principle in mind, Georgetown has built an environment that is at once conducive to the exchange of practical ideas and the pursuit of academic excellence.
The McCourt School of Public Policy (MSPP) course of study helps students develop rigorous policy analysis skills and understand the political and policymaking processes. The McCourt School provides opportunities to apply these core skills to specific policy problems in areas such as education and social policy, children’s issues, housing, health care, the environment, nonprofit and public-sector management, international development policy, electoral politics, tax policy, crime and homeland security. The school offers both a Master of Public Policy and a Master of Policy Management, and offers three degree programs – a Master of Public Policy, a Master of International Development Policy, and a Master of Policy Management.
The McDonough School of Business offers a number of graduate degree programs – the full-time and evening MBA; the Global Executive MBA, an 18-month, accelerated program that concentrates on core business disciplines with a global focus; the Georgetown-ESADE Global Executive MBA, which partners the school with the ESADE Business School located in Barcelona, Spain, for highly accomplished executives who participate in six challenging international residencies; and the Executive Master’s in Leadership (EML), a program designed for professionals who wish to become more creative and effective leaders, and which includes doctors, engineers, military officers, corporate leaders and entrepreneurs.
The School of Continuing Studies offers the Master of Professional Studies degree in eight majors: emergency and disaster management, human resources management, journalism, public relations and corporate communications, real estate, sports industry management, technology management and urban and regional planning. The school also offers the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies and Doctor of Liberal Studies programs. Most of the school’s programs offer part-time and full-time enrollment options and most courses are scheduled on weekday evenings or on Saturdays to accommodate working professionals. The SCS’s graduate programs create opportunities for students to translate and apply classroom learning through research, scholarship and service.
The School of Nursing and Health Studies has a tradition of excellence in the education of health care professionals, providing leaders for the nation and the world. The graduate program offers the Master of Science (M.S.) in five specializations: Integrated Health Systems for those with or without a nursing degree; and advanced practice degrees in Nurse Anesthesia, Nurse Midwifery, Family Practice and Acute Care.
The School of Medicine’s mission is to advance health through research in the clinical and biomedical sciences, the education of future leaders in medical and nursing practice and academia, and the provision of compassionate and scientifically competent patient care and service to the Washington community and the nation.
Financial Aid
Georgetown’s graduate and professional schools award scholarships, assistantships and fellowships on the basis of merit and academic achievement. International students compete for these awards on an equal basis with U.S. citizens. In addition, many graduate students receive need-based federal financial aid funds and other financing assistance through the Office of Student Financial Services.
