Vladimir Sakhnenko

Vladimir Sakhnenko was born in Sumy region in 1930. He studied in Voroshilov art college and Moscow Academic School named after Surikov. He started as a painter in traditional for Russian school manner. At some point, he became interested in ceramics, to which he had devoted much of his life.He managed to create everything from ceramics: starting from subtle buckets to multimeter composite sculpture.

It is nearly impossible to divide the artist's heritage into applied art and pure fine art. His clay vases and amphoras, fish, frogs and crocodyles, monumental reliefs, picturing birds on the trees and fantastical creatures: all this comprises a whole world of the characteristic bright and decorative artifacts, whole ceramic culture.

The abstract ornament and figurative compositions, which decorate Sakhnenko's artworks, recall many associations from the history of folk and contemporary art. However, the artist didn't try to create a styling for an existing style; he embodied his own figurative plastic vision.

Vladimir Sakhnenko passed away in the July of 2008, leaving a rich artistic heritage. A lot of his works still do decorate public buildings in Moscow, Tula, Yalta and Samarkand. "Erarta" posesses the most representative collection of his ceramics.
