logoAbout Us

In all of our work, we strive to translate our research to sustainable clinical and policy impacts that make healthcare for Veterans more patient-centered, effective, safe and affordable. CCMR has been awarded highly competitive VA Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D) Center of Innovation (COIN) funding to pursue the following three main research goals:

  1. Promoting patient-centered and personalized decision making and performance measurement;
  2. Improving safety and outcomes for the most vulnerable and high-risk patients; and
  3. Enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of patient-self-management and treatment engagement.

CCMR’s mission is to advance knowledge, promote innovations, and engage in collaborations that will improve the health and health care of Veterans and the nation. Our vision is to improve the quality, effectiveness, safety, and efficiency of Veterans’ health care through research and partnerships that are driven by important challenges in clinical management. CCMR's key VA partners in this work include the National Center for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCP), Offices of Mental Health Services (OMHS), Office of Mental Health Operations, Primary Care Program Office; Pain Management, National Program for Oncology, National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS) and Office of Clinical Analytics and Reporting.

Since the Ann Arbor VA Center for Clinical Management Research (CCMR) became a full Center in 1996, it has gone from a small group of investigators with two VA-funded projects to an elite health services research center with over 40 investigators, 150 staff, and annual extramural funding of over $18 million. Many of our investigators are nationally recognized experts in a broad spectrum of disciplines and hold joint University of Michigan (U-M) appointments in the Medical School (Departments of Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, and Urology), and Schools of Nursing and Public Health. They publish ground breaking research and play highly visible service roles in Veterans Health Affairs (VHA) research and clinical leadership.
