Concussion Recognition & Respo
PAR, Inc
1
"Based on the great CDC Heads Up work that Dr. Gioia helped to create, the Concussion Recognition & Response App gives parents and coaches a great tool to identify kids with suspected concussions. It also is a great resource of information about concussions and what parents can do to help their child recover from the injury. This app should be a necessary part of every comprehensive youth concussion management and awareness program."
—Steve Young, Hall of Fame NFL Quarterback
The Concussion Recognition & Response™ App
Developed by Gerard A. Gioia, PhD, and Jason Mihalik, PhD
The Concussion Recognition & Response™ app is a new tool that helps coaches and parents recognize whether an individual is exhibiting/reporting the signs and symptoms of a suspected concussion. The app allows a coach or parent to respond quickly and appropriately to this potentially serious medical situation. In less than 5 minutes, the user can go through a checklist of possible signs/symptoms to determine whether to remove the child from play and the need for further medical examination. The app allows users to record pertinent information regarding a child with a suspected concussion and share that information via email with health care professionals; it also provides a system for post-injury follow-up. With answers to Frequently Asked Questions for parents and coaches, this tool is an invaluable guide for learning about concussions.
Benefits and Features:
Concussion Recognition and Response
Using information from the CDC’s “Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports” program, the app guides users through a set of questions to determine the likelihood of a suspected concussion based on observations by the parent or coach as well as symptoms reported by the athlete. In addition to the child’s name, age, gender, and sport, the location of the injury is tracked by the device’s GPS, and its camera can be used to photograph the injury. Along with the answers to the guided questions, this information can be emailed to a health care provider to provide accurate documentation of the child’s condition at the time of the injury.
Home Symptom Monitoring (HSM)
After following up with health care providers, the app allows a parent or caregiver to record a child’s symptoms through periodic evaluations, which are tracked in the hours, days, or weeks following an injury. The information compiled using the HSM can then be emailed to the health care professionals, providing an update on the child’s recovery.
Return-to-Play Guide
Based on information from the CDC, the Return-to-Play Guide helps to protect children and athletes from further injury by guiding them through a daily exercise routine that assists in their ability to return to play. Through a five-step, tiered workout routine and in collaboration with the child’s health care provider, parents and coaches can ensure that the child is able to handle added exercise without further injury or discomfort.
Concussion Information
The app’s concussion information section helps coaches and parents to make an informed decision regarding how to proceed after a child’s injury. Provided by authors Gerard A. Gioia and Jason Mihalik, concussion specialists from the Children’s National Medical Center and the Matthew A. Gfeller Sport-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center, this feature includes answers to Frequently Asked Questions for coaches and parents.
Acute Concussion Evaluation (ACE) Post-Concussion Home/School Instructions
Included with the app is a concussion overview page that users can share with other coaches, parents, or athletes. This overview, which can be sent directly from the mobile device via email, is an excellent way to share important information about how to recognize and respond to head injuries.
You Are Your Own Gym

The warm-up and cool down videos are available for FREE, the circuits, timed sets and ladders packs are available as separate purchases at three different difficulty levels (Novice, Intermediate and Advanced).

Pocket Psychologist
Do you ever wonder why people act the way they do? Do you wonder why you see the same people repeat the same mistakes over and over again? Why some people always seem to be angry, anxious, self destructive, frightened or full of themselves. Have you ever looked at someone else’s life with complete bewilderment. For the first time Pocket Psychologist opens up the world of psychological diagnosis making it possible for everyone to understand even the craziest of behaviours. Staying faithful to the same clinical diagnosis used by psychiatrists and psychologists the world over you can diagnose your friends, family, enemies, even celebrities and politicians and understand the unusual and fascinating world of Personality Disorders. This application works in exactly the same way as a session with a psychologist or psychiatrist. In “real life” a psychologist or psychiatrist asks a series of increasingly detailed questions about a person’s behaviour, eventually leading to a diagnosis. This application does exactly the same. Using this application you will be able to correctly and confidently diagnose either: Personality Traits: These are the parts of our personality that are unchanging and form our unique personality, such as our general level of anxiety, or negativity. Certain Personality Traits go to make up Personality Disorders. Personality Disorders: These are a specific collection of personality traits. *In the diagnostic features you will see the phrase “over a long time frame”. Although there is no set time frame, psychiatrists and psychologists are looking for consistent patterns of behaviour over years rather than weeks or months.

Return2Play For Concussion
Return2Play from the Pediatric Trauma Program at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, in partnership with Michigan NeuroSport, is the first concussion recovery journal app that helps concussion patients track their activities and symptoms, and share that information with their healthcare team.
Are you recovering from a concussion? Has your doctor asked you to keep track of your activities and your symptoms as you work through a concussion recovery program?
Wouldn’t it be great to have an easy way to keep track of your progress, and share that information with your healthcare team to make your follow-up appointments more productive?
Get started by entering the date and details of your injury in Return2Play. Then as you progress through the recovery protocol, under the direction of a physician, enter your activities, symptoms & their severity, and your notes along the way. You can even enter appointment dates and take notes right in the app! Email your progress history in chronological order to your physician, trainer or coach.
Return2Play also includes educational material about concussion and the BRAIN recovery protocol.
Return2Play was designed with the patient and healthcare team in mind. Our goal is to create a more efficient clinic appointment that leads to better management of the injury and safe return to play decisions.
Michigan NeuroSport is one of only a handful of comprehensive programs in the country dedicated to the neurological concerns of athletes. Michigan NeuroSport specializes in the treatment and prevention of neurological sports injuries, as well as the management of primary neurological diseases that affect athletic performance. V1.0 of this app is funded by the University of Michigan Health System Fostering Innovation Grants (FIGS.)
Return2Play is part of an overall education effort for coaches, parents, and players about concussion and recovery, coordinated by the Pediatric Trauma Program at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

BioZen is one of the first mobile applications to provide users with live biofeedback data from multiple wearable body sensors covering a range of biophysiological signals, including electroencephalogram (EEG), electromyography (EMG), galvanic skin response (GSR), electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), respiratory rate, and temperature biofeedback data and display it on a mobile phone.
BioZen was developed as a pilot project to study the feasibility of using smartphones to receive signals from biosensor devices. The National Center for Telehealth & Technology (T2) is a Department of Defense organization that evaluates new technologies for telemental health. BioZen represents an approach to mobile monitoring of biosensor devices that may be further developed to support future projects. No further development or enhancements to BioZen are planned.
Using BioZen requires compatible biosensor devices (see listing below). These devices and BioZen are not designed or intended for psychological therapy or medical treatments.
BioZen can display several brain wave bands (Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma) separately, as well as combinations of several bands using algorithms that may indicate relevant cognitive states, such as meditation and attention. BioZen features a meditation module that represents biometric information with user-selectable graphics that change in response to the user's biometric data.
Biofeedback data is recorded in real time, so users can observe relationships between recorded biophysiological data and their behavior. Users' can create notes to document and categorize their recording session. BioZen automatically generates graphical feedback from the recording sessions to allow users' to monitor their progress over time.
Provider Resilience

The fast pace of military operations and frequent deployments affect the entire military community. For health care providers treating military personnel, the intense demands on their time and personal resources can lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatic stress. Through psychoeducation and self-assessments, Provider Resilience gives frontline providers tools to keep themselves productive and emotionally healthy as they help our nation’s service members, veterans, and their families.
The Provider Resilience home screen gives a quick snapshot of the user’s overall resilience rating – generated through user self-assessments – and a reminder clock showing how long since the user last took a day off. Compassion fatigue, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress ratings can also be viewed in automatically generated graphs, allowing users to monitor their professional quality of life over time.
Provider Resilience also features stress-busting and compassion satisfaction-building tools. Videos by service members describing the positive impact health care providers had in their battles with stigma, depression and other issues help users remember why they do what they do. Stretches, daily reflection cards, and Dilbert comics give users a break from daily stress.
Provider Resilience was developed by psychologists at the National Center for Telehealth & Technology, the Defense Department’s primary agency for applying innovative technology to issues of psychological health and traumatic brain injury.
