There are a few small threads about this issue running around, and I'm hoping to consolidate the issue.
We've got another discussion over at: Discuss Out of Video Memory Error (Total War Center) which I encourage everyone to also involve themselves.
My goal for this thread, is anyone who has this problem - post your basic computer specs - and prepare (don't post yet) a DxDiag.
Intel i7 920@2.67GHZ
GeForce GTX 260 w/181.22 Drivers
6GB Ram
Windows Vista Ultimate
Consolidated Problem: After two/three land battles, I will encounter an "insufficient video memory" error that causes my game to CTD. It will sometimes occur while in battle, but for me it typically begins right before the battle finishes loading.
Attempted solutions: I've altered my drivers to no avail, and attempted to edit the "preferences.empire_script.txt" file; specifically line number 11 (gfx_video_memory 896000000; # gfx_video_memory <int>, Override available video memory (bytes) #) to reflect the bolded number as my overall video ram number. To get this, take your video ram number (in my case 896MB) and multiple times 1,000,000 (as there are one million bytes in one megabyte). This has had limited, and possibly no success in preventing these types of video memory crashses.
I noticed the following files in my main E:TW folder within Steam:
out_of_memory_dump_heaps_map.tga
out_of_memory_dump_memory_map.tga
out_of_memory_dump_virtual_map.tga
When I attempt to open them, they are nothing - a black background with some scribbled red lines.
Please post, remain active, and keep this as concise and conclusive as possible so that Creative Assembly can understand exactly what we are referring to - and offer what assistance they can.
Thanks in advance,
Greg "Cookie Monster"
