B-Rude!  NY Fashion Week Spring 2006

Fashion Ledge - B-Rude!
B-RUDE BY (BOY GEORGE and design partner MIKE NICHOLLS) SPRING/SUMMER 2006 RUNWAY SHOW

B-RUDE is for those who like their reputation to arrive in the room ahead of them. Currently available at Fred Segal and American Rag, B-RUDE is about to invade London with an exclusive deal with the Paul & Joe empire. "Butterflies to Flags" - This season’s theme is a tribute to nature and eccentric creatures that inhabit the parallel universe under our feet, in the sand and sea. Using all natural fabrics like cotton drill, muslin and rubber, the clothes reflect a summer vibe full of bold colors. The look is sexy, playful with a hint of surrealism and essential humor.

“The first supermodel” JANICE DICKINSON (VH1’s The Surreal Life, UPN’s America’s Next Top Model), EVE SALVAIL (Top fashion model in the 90’s who appeared in the following films: Unzipped, Zoolander, The Fifth Element), and nightlife queen SOFIA LAMAR walked the runway.

Guests included DEBBIE HARRY, HEATHERETTE, ALANA GRACE, KAI and more…

ABOUT BOY GEORGE: Whoever doesn’t remember his musical rampage through the 80’s was either asleep or not yet formed. George says, ‘I’m not ashamed of what I achieved in the 80’s with Culture Club, it was a fantastic glittering adventure but I’m not one for dwelling on the past and I’m always more excited by today and what’s next. I’ve always loved fashion and I’m fascinated by the idea that a handbag or a pair of shoes can topple an empire. Now that music has become so controlled and manufactured, fashion is still a place where there are pockets of resistance.’ Aside from creating clothes, Boy George is a sought after club DJ and is about to sign a major recording contract after a seven-year retreat. ‘I feel very excited about being creative again and living in New York this past year has inspired me to no end.’

ABOUT MIKE NICHOLLS: Mike is co-designer of Boy George’s fashion line, ‘B-Rude‘, which premiered at New York fashion week February 2005. Mike was previously the personal stylist to George for all press appearances. Mike was rewarded a Tony nomination for costume design for ‘Taboo the Musical’ Broadway production. In the past, Mike has assisted in the design/production of Haute couture clothing for, amongst others, Christian Lacroix, Thierry Mugler, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. In 1990, he opened a fashion boutique ’Spend Spend Spend’ alongside designer Rachel Auburn. At the same time, Mike worked as a stylist and designed stagewear for many artists including Seal, Kylie, the KLF, Adamski, Betty Boo, Mica Paris and DJ Danny Rampling.
