Billy Hardwick, the San Mateo magician, became the second leading Professional Bowlers Association tournament winner when he made it No. 7 in the $27,500 Southern California Open at Costa Mesa. "The Kid" had to defeat another Californian, Andy Marzich of Redondo Beach. And, he did it in grand style, 235-217. Before that, Marzich had to work his way up through the ranks into the championship match. He struck out to defeat Ray Bluth, 218-198 in the first televised bout; and then eliminated Johnny King, 210-202. Bluth knocked out King, 268-236. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
