Chow Yun Fat, a renowned Hong Kong film star, stated that he would donate 99% of his wealth to charity after he passes away.

As one of the highest paid Asian actors, Chow Yun Fat makes 40 million yuan (6.6 million US dollars) per film. He and his wife Jasmine Tan also own properties worth more than 1 billion HK dollars (129 million US dollars).

Despite his great wealth, Chow is known for his pursuit of a simple lifestyle. According to Chow's friend, the television at his home has been used for nearly a decade.

In making the decision, Chow said he drew his fortune from the society, so it is only natural that he gives back to the society now.

The childless couple has not decided on how to use the money for charity. Chow’s wife said she would like to set up a foundation to help the needy.

Chow is especially well-known in the American film market for two of his blockbusters, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."
