Angel Di Maria, Jese Rodriguez on target to help PSG defeat Nantes

Angel Di Maria celebrates after firing PSG into the lead.

Paris Saint-Germain moved into second place, level on points with Ligue 1 leaders Monaco and Nice, after Angel Di Maria and Jese Rodriguez's first league goals of the season helped them to a 2-0 win over struggling Nantes.

Di Maria struck after 13 minutes as PSG extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine games. Jese's penalty on the stroke of full time was his first goal since joining from Real Madrid and made sure of the win.

The opener came when Jean-Kevin Augustin found Di Maria with a pass through a defender's legs. The Argentine forward, sometimes wasteful this season, this time finished with aplomb firing a powerful left footed into the bottom right corner of the net.

Di Maria was forced off with a hamstring injury before half-time, with Hatem Ben Arfa replacing him.

The game clincher came when a long range effort from substitute Javier Pastore was handled by Diego Carlos and referee Francois Letexier pointed to the spot. Jese stepped up and dispatched the penalty with ease, slotting into the bottom left corner with his right foot, sending Riou the wrong way.

Rennes were held to a 1-1 draw by nine-man Angers as they missed the chance to go up to fourth in the Ligue 1 table.

Ivory Coast international Giovanni Sio opened the scoring for the hosts on 21 minutes after he latched onto a through ball by Ludovic Baal before rounding goalkeeper Mathieu Michel and squeezing the ball in from a tight angle.

The night got worse for the visitors as Romain Thomas saw red on 58 minutes for pulling Sio's shirt when the forward was through on goal.

Nicolas Pepe equalised for Angers with a powerful left-footed strike from 20 yards with eight minutes left before they were reduced to nine men following Cheikh N'Doye's dismissal in stoppage time, but held on to share the spoils.

Metz broke their run of five Ligue 1 matches without a win with a 2-1 away triumph over Toulouse at Stadium Municipal.

The hosts started the game in positive fashion but their hard work was undone when Metz winger Opa Nguette was brought down by Les Pitchouns goalkeeper Alban Lafont in the area on 35 minutes. Yann Jouffre stepped up to drill his penalty past the 17-year-old and into the bottom right corner to give the visitors the lead at the break.

Three minutes after the restart, Les Grenats doubled their lead through Georges Mandjeck after he curled in Benoit Assou-Ekotto's cross before Odsonne Edouard netted a consolation for Toulouse with the last kick of the game.

Montpellier came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at struggling Bastia.

The hosts, who are now winless since September 24, had taken an early lead on six minutes through an own goal from Ellyes Skhiri. Montpellier equalised early in the second half through Steve Mounie. On 55 minutes, Souleymane Camara broke down the right and swept the ball into the Bastia penalty area, where Mounie arrived to guide a half-volley in from eight yards.

A late goal from defender Tobias Badila helped Nancy defeat Dijon 1-0 at the Stade Marcel-Picot.

The decisive moment came with 13 minutes left. A free kick from the right was floated high across the Dijon penalty area, before the ball was knocked back through a crowded box for left-back Badila to crash in, via a deflection off Julio Tavares.
