Twinning Agreement signed 1983

Clermont-Ferrand was founded in the 1600s with the union of Clermont and Montferrand. Based at the foot of the Chaîne-des-Puys volcanoes, it is known as the natural capital of 'Massif Central' - one of France's most attractive regions.

The city has two universities: Université de Blaise Pascal and Université d'Auvergne (student population of approximately 35,000). It is home to tyre manufacturer Michelin and other industries include food processing, mechanics, tertiary services and a technology park.

Twinning activities with Clermont-Ferrand are wide ranging and include the development of cultural, educational, music, sport and economic links.
