Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, located SE of Fairbury, was an important road ranch, Pony Express Station and Stagecoach stop along the Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Fairbury Nebraska, Heritage Highway 136Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Fairbury Nebraska, Heritage Highway 136Oregon Trail. Rock Creek Station spans 350 acres of prairie hilltops, timber-studded creek bottoms, and rugged ravines.

Here, visitors can still see the deep ruts carved by the wagon trains and learn about Oregon Trail and Pony Express history at the visitor's center. Reconstruction of the buildings and corrals gives visitors a sense of life on the trail in the late 1850s.

Open year round, Rock Creek Station has an excellent interpretive center, picnic areas, hiking and nature trails, tent camping, horse camping and a modern campground with services.

Burlington Northern Foundation Visitor Center

Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Fairbury Nebraska, Heritage Highway 1363,200 square-feet includes two wings for displays, lobby and theater with slide presentation upon request.

Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Fairbury Nebraska, Heritage Highway 136Large picnic shelter with electricity, tables, grills, water and toilets available. The picnic shelter may be reserved for a fee of $30. Please inquire at the Visitor Center or with the Park Superintendent.

Nebraska Park Entry Permit is required. Permits available at the Visitor Center or from the Park Superintendent. Daily, $4.00; Annual, $21.00; Duplicate, $11. Permits are per vehicle.

Modern Campground

Fees: $18/night (camp pads); $12/night (tent sites); $7 electric fee during off season. All pads have hook-ups, camp grill or fire ring and picnic table. All pads are paved. Tent sites have picnic table and grill or fire ring.

Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Fairbury Nebraska, Heritage Highway 136The "Friends of Rock Creek Station" Foundation . . . was created by a group of individuals who cherish the history and beauty of Rock Creek Station State Historical Park. Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Fairbury Nebraska, Heritage Highway 136Aware that funding for state parks and other public programs is often diminished as other demands are made on government budgets, this group organized to create a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation to raise funds to be used to enhance and expand educational and historical programs at the park.

This foundation is operated by an elected Board of Directors. The Rock Creek Station Park Superintendent serves as an ex-officio member of the board and works to help the group identify needs and programs to be considered for funding.

Members of "Friends" dressed in historical clothing offer Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Fairbury Nebraska, Heritage Highway 136students the kind of experiences that children would have met along the Oregon Trail as it passed through Nebraska.

Schools are not charged for the event and the program helps meet curriculum requirements for Nebraska history studies.
